Concepts of Broadcasting in Iraq

The many-layered and complex conflicts in Iraq are mirrored in a media landscape that since the demise of the previous regime has grown and sprawled in all directions. Countless radio and tv-stations, dozens of newspapers and hundreds of websites have been founded and state control has given way to unlimited proliferation. The new media are founded run or at least supported mostly by political parties or other interest groups who, after decades of silence, now for the first time have access to the means of public communication.

Anja Wollenberg (Media in Cooperation & Transition) will illuminate basic conditions and concepts of media production in Iraq today thereby focusing on communication strategies of Radio Broadcasters.
